About Neurosurgery Unit I

The subspecialty of Neurosurgery-1 encompasses skull base surgery in collaboration with ENT specialists, the management of complex vascular cases such as aneurysms, cavernomas, and arteriovenous malformations, epilepsy surgeries, treatment of functional pituitary tumors (Acromegaly and Cushing’s disease), correction of spinal deformities, degenerative spinal disorders, spinal tumors, and general neurosurgical procedures.

We have performed over 5,000 microscopic and endoscopic skull base procedures, and we have a strong collaboration with ENT-1 for these procedures. The head and neck surgery team, as well as the maxillofacial unit, the onco-ophthalmic and plastic surgery unit, are actively involved in our skull base surgeries. Our unit is equipped with high-end microscopes, ICG-enabled 4K endoscopes, drills, micro instruments, dopplers and high-end navigation systems.

Neurosurgery- 1 specializes in minimally invasive spinal surgery, endoscopic spine surgery and complex spine deformities. The unit performs all surgeries through high end microscopes, 3D C-Arm and O-Arm system. The unit works closely with pediatric Neurology and Adult Neurology Dept and provides surgery for epilepsy disorders. We are a pioneer in Epilepsy surgery and have been providing this surgery for more than three decades.  We work as a multidisciplinary team comprising Neurology, Neuroradiology, Neuropathology, Neurochemistry, Neurophysiology, Endocrinologists, Neurocritical care, Otolaryngologists &Radiation oncologists. The unit focuses on shaping the next generation of neurosurgical leaders and advancing neurosurgery through innovative research

Neurosurgery-1 specializes in minimally invasive spinal surgery, endoscopic spine surgery, and the treatment of complex spine deformities. The unit utilizes high-end microscopes, drill, 3D C-Arm, and O-Arm systems for all surgeries. The unit works closely with both paediatric and adult neurology departments and provides surgery for epilepsy disorders. We are a pioneer in epilepsy surgery and have been providing this surgery for more than three decades.

We are a team of experts from various disciplines in neuroscience, including neurology, neuroradiology, neuropathology, neurochemistry, neurophysiology, endocrinology, neurocritical care, otolaryngology, and radiation oncology. Our aim is to develop future neurosurgical leaders and drive innovation through cutting-edge research. Additionally, we are establishing a state-of-the-art cadaver lab for skull base, micro-neurosurgery, and spine surgery within the premiss of  Department of Anatomy.

Teaching is a vital part of the unit. Academic activities, aside from case discussions held in the ward, are an essential component of the unit.
